Country of Honor 2017: Canada
Canada is very pleased to be selected as the Country of Honour for the 18th China Annual Conference for International Education (CACIE) in 2017.
2017 is a special year for Canada, as it marks the 150th anniversary since the birth of the country as a confederation in 1867. Canada will of course mark that milestone by organizing a number of celebratory activities, including education-related initiatives by our network of diplomatic missions in China.
The past year of 2016 was a fruitful year for Canada to advance its bilateral relationship with China. The Canadian and Chinese governments both recognize that international education is an important pillar to our bilateral relationship, which is central to connecting people between our two countries; increasing our citizens’ understanding of each other’s cultures and values; and enabling greater trade and prosperity in both our countries and in the global economy. In Fall 2016, during Premier Li Keqiang’s official visit to Canada, he joined Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in witnessing the signing of the first ever Memorandum of Understanding on Education Cooperation between Canada and China, providing even greater opportunities between our two countries for education collaboration.
Canada is consistently ranked as one of the top country in the world in terms of its education excellence and its quality of life. Today, more than 120,000 Chinese studentsare studying in Canada, representing the largest group of international students on Canadian campuses. Students from all over the world come to Canada to enjoy a world-class education offered by a great variety of Canadian institutions, and to become part of a diverse, welcoming and vibrant society that offers them a unique cultural experience in a safe and beautiful environment.
Coordinated by the Government of Canada, the participation of Canadian education institutions in the CACIE 2017 will represent a significant opportunity to showcase the best that Canada has to offer international students and educators.
Under CACIE’s 2017 theme “International Education Empowers Global Sustainable Development”, Canada will co-host a high level Canada-China bilateral forum with the China Education Association for International Exchange, to highlight issues of common interest on international education and explore innovative ideas on sustainable development through international education cooperation.
Canada looks forward to welcoming international students and educators at the CACIE 2017.
